Both feet in Maryland with fond thoughts of Idaho - Weeks 19-20: Holms on the Potomac

It's July! Family reunion time in Idaho. We have bucked up and braced ourselves for this--because we are privileged to bear witness of our Savior Jesus Christ by serving as missionaries for a year, and we have (mostly)  put our hands to the plow and not looked back. (Elder Holm does better with this than I do. : )

My Mama raised me to believe that bragging is not polite, and the offshoot is that I don’t brag when I should. I’m breaking Mama’s rule today: We have 16 kind, funny, smart and good-looking grandchildren. The best kids ANYWHERE! The proof is in the photos!!  Their parents are superlative in every way—all five of our children “married up” and we’ve been blessed in so many ways by our in-law kids and our own wonderful children. Oh, how I love them all! Being with them in July is the highlight of our summer—so this year feels very different.

A sister in the MTC taught senior missionaries to practice “selective negligence” regarding our families at home when special holidays come, and as difficult as that is to do, we’ve been blessed by it. I’ll be honest—I miss them all, I can’t wait to see them at the end of the mission, and I’m feeling blessed that the Lord has helped me stay busy and happy while they have been reunion-ing in Idaho. Another blessing: the same thing happened when my siblings gathered for the Nelson Reunion at our farm July 8-10. God is good!

Fifteen gorgeous children filled with all kinds of super powers: Harris, Jack, Axel, Ella, Mari, William, Grace, Steele, Anna, Holly, Beau, Lucy, Sylvie, Freddie and Lyla. We look forward to hugs at the end of our mission!
