Falling for Fall in the East - Weeks 35 and 36: Holms on the Potomac

We first noticed a yellow leaf here and there in August.  Those leaves whispered to the grasses and by mid-September they were blushing lavender. All summer, the thick woodlands had blended into greens that made us call this place "The Emerald City," but over the weeks the tones and textures took on wildly different personalities and colors. On Nov. 7 it was 77 degrees F. Fall was in full swing. Each photo is worth a thousand words, so I'll let them do the talking.

The pond near our apartment on November 4.

One day, this tree (in the parking lot of our church, no less) took half of its finery off!

Many trees just can't make up their minds.

Great Seneca Park.

Trees are bare, but at sunrise, late fall is
 memorable-- Nov. 17!
